Can I give some constructive comments about your novel; Melodi Kasih?

1. The English wordings werent that great. There were some grammatical errors.

2. I think you've got what it takes to be a great writer in the Malaysian scene. So, pls dont just write what the masses want. You need to challenge yourself and I know you have the potential to succeed in a big way.

3. *CBNers are movers & shakers, there's no doubt about that. Hence, write something which is totally un-YOU. Explore and experiment. You might just end up embracing the experience.

4. Write something which is taboo in society. Open society's minds, that would be your contribution to society and making a mark in the writer's space. Society has been too conformist and 'sheltered' to the norm.

Hey, if I've stepped into your boundaries, my apologies.

I am a malay oriented novelist… may be, that is the cause of those ‘grammatical errors’.

2) Thank you for your comment. But as a new writer in the industry, in order for me to reach ‘greatness’, mass appeal is a prerequisite and not merely for own satisfaction. And when I started to write, yes I admit… I have in mind the readers who really enjoy reading malay novels.

3) True… CBNers are movers and shakers, we are made to set the difference by experimenting and exploring new ideas. Perhaps, in my next project… (after writing more than 3 novels or so, InsyaALLAH) I could try to write something which is totally un-ME. As for the time being, I want to write what I am familiar with. Something which is close to my heart… my friends, my surrounding and people whom I am associated with.

Something similar to their life and experience, in which my writing could be a ‘mirror’ to the readers. I am not being exaggerating by stating this… tetapi ada pembaca yang merasakan persahabatan tiga watak utama MK iaitu Zahara Inas, Edrina Julia dan Iman Syukriah mengembalikan nostalgia mereka dan rakan-rakan. (the fact that Zahara is a lady with big ego and she loves white color!) (Yes… I’ve been there, I’ve done that!)
I cannot satisfy or please everybody if MK is not up to the expectation or their high level of thinking. It is kind of difficult not to write something which is totally un-ME. Seandainya saya menulis sesuatu dengan menjadi un-ME… then, I’ll be writing something based purely on assumptions and imagination and I do not wish to end up being an hypocrite!

4) Frankly speaking, that is what I wish to do… try to open up the society’s mind with my writing. Dan MK sebagai permulaan. To some urban mentality malays, watak2 dalam MK bukanlah sesuatu yg asing. Bila selesai menamatkan MK, mereka mula terfikir segala kemungkinan dan persoalan e.g what if that incident were to happen to me? How would I react? Questions might have triggered the readers to open up their mind.

May be, you could share with me what you do have in mind about making the society to think ‘out of the norm’. But yet again, contractual obligations preclude me from exploring taboo subjects. I may share your views on this but reality dictates that we are actually a society of conformists and we abide by the norm which have positive and negative effects according to the circumstances in hand. There are times, we have to delve a little more deeper behind the reasons as to why are things as they are rather than being an idealist.

Nevertheless in short, I would like to express my gratitude and thanks for posting those invaluable comment.

Hezzy, agreed with u that your novel should be the mirror to the readers. Dari tulisan anda maka kami dapat melihat kelemahan, kekurangan, kecacatan mahupun kekuatan (sekiranya ade)diri sendiri. Novelists and their readers must be 'connected'. Why must u waste your time on issues that we all know are taboos? Look forward, create something new, let those self professed, pseudo malay intellectuals dig out those old issues, giving them new english sounding terminologies if they wish to...Keep up with your good works because u are on the right track...

hmmmm, the english wordings are not great? of course, this is a malay novel, my dear...if guna bombastic words nanti, payah lak readers melayu nak faham...

the rest of your ideas, i have to digest properly, at the moment, tak tercapai akal i...

but, i believe from the words you used in your comment, you are being too personal...

relax, babe... ;)

I beg to differ!

Most great writers write based on own experiences and observations. Once in a while, we will find a rare talent who can simply pick a topic, write it off and become a bestseller.

But if you are a novice in the writing world, baru nak belajar merangkak, then I think a new writer should 1st and foremost write a subject that is close to their heart!

Once you have made your mark in the writing world (after few novels and followers), then you can safely venture into unfamiliar waters (if you want to).

Bottom line is, you write because it gives you pleasure not pressure! And yes, you definitely cannot please everyone.

"Aja aja fighting!"

I think the fact that you have a book out is already an achievement. To have people go out and buy it is an even greater achievement.

Criticisim is good as this will make you more open and think of new twists and turns in your future novels.

As for the english in your novel, tak seteruk mana lah kak, I've read other novels namely an author with the initial NB, ya ampun, English nya berterabur, I feel like writing to her and tell her kalau tak reti nak guna proper english, tak payahlah, guna je BM sepenuhnya. Kalau orang Melayu tak banggakan BM, sapa lagikan?

All the best.

Komen anda amat saya hargai... mencetuskn lagi semangat utk menulis.

Eses,
Sorry for the late reply. I've been rather busy lately... something has caught my attention away from blogging... haha.
True, novel is just like a mirror to the readers... sbb novelis itu juga sebenarnya manusia biasa yg berada di celah2 'cermin' kehidupan pembaca.

aimyrashid,
we both need some time to digest the ideas given...susah nak paham org2 bijak pandai ni...

db,
yesza... i write because it gives me pleasure not pressure!
thanx babe for the support!

anonymous,
ye betul, perjuangan masih belum selesai...kerana perjuangan baru bermula!

RaudhahH,
It is my personal achievement...biarpun org lain tidak menganggapnya satu kejayaan. With all those critics, I hope I can be much better writer after this... with lots of twists and turns!
Thanx sis 4 the wish...

TuN TeJa,
Terima kasih krn sudi singgah kat sini dan menyukai MK...
